Why ‘International’, Why the Philippines?
The Society of Mary decided at the General Chapter in Rome, 2001 to internationalise formation throughout the Society. There were several reasons for this, including very low numbers in formation in some areas, the importance of having larger groups together in formation, and to help those in formation to have a more international experience of the Society of Mary.
The Philippines was chosen as the place for the novitiate because it is a part of the Society which is very focused on Marist mission. There are also many young Marists in this part of the world, as well as many other members of the Marist family. It is a place where a novice can be both challenged and supported during their novitiate year.
